Bharatnatyam Class Series

from $20.00

This Bharatnatyam Class Series is an 8-week beginner dance class series for those that want an introduction Bharatnatyam technique, a prolific South Indian dance. Each class follows this outline:

  1. Theory/history - the Natya Shastra and lineage

  2. Warm up - prepare the body and build heat

  3. Mudras - hand gestures

  4. Adavus - foundational step sequences

  5. Expressions - eye/neck movements

Class focuses on structured, repeated exercises that help build strength, coordination, focus, and stamina over time. These exercises connect the body to the earth and to music, and help us find more expression through the body. The result is a practice that feels both physically energizing and deeply centering—living in the same ecosystem as yoga.

Students are encouraged to attend multiple or all classes, but drop ins are welcome and still very valuable. Classes will repeat exercises week to week to give students a chance to return and deepen into them, while introducing new concepts and skills along the way.

All levels are welcome; no prior dance experience is required.
