Contemporary Bharatnatyam Fundamentals
Join this unique opportunity for an overview of foundational Bharatnatyam technique, which is a highly developed technique with a rich history. You’ll develop a foundation of body positions and footwork, then use the technique in contemporary choreography. In our 2 hours together, get a taste of how Bharatnatyam exists today and see how it can be used as a basis for choreography.
Part I: Intro to Bharatnatyam technique exercises
Warm Up, Footwork, Mudras, Body Positions, Short Exercises
Part II: Moving beyond the technical lines
Moving through space with a range of classical and contemporary steps
Part III: Phrasework
Putting things together, playing, experimenting, and fun!
All levels and backgrounds with some movement experience are welcome!
Bharatnatyam dancers, contemporary dancers, and beginner dancers will all be challenged in different ways.
